Written and taught by working EMS educators.
DracoEMS didn't come out of a boardroom. It came out of a real EMT classroom, where we wanted our own students to have a book they'd actually read, practice that meant something, and a way for us to see how everyone was doing. When we couldn't find one product that did all of that well, we built it ourselves.
Clinicians who teach — and teachers who practice.
Every page of DracoEMS is written and reviewed by people who hold the licenses, run the calls, and grade the tests.
Damien Draconum
Author and founder. A college professor in the health sciences, a nurse, and a U.S. Army combat-medic veteran, Damien brings more than thirty years in EMS to the classroom. He writes the material and leads the program.
Rebecca Ives
Co-author and instructor. Rebecca teaches alongside Damien and reviews the clinical content for accuracy and classroom fit — keeping every chapter true to how EMS is actually practiced, not just how it reads on paper.
Getting the clinical content right is our first responsibility.
EMTs act on what they learned, often under pressure, so the content has to be right. Every chapter is written and reviewed by licensed clinicians and checked against current national standards before it's published.
- Written to the National EMS Education Standards and the National EMS Scope of Practice Model, with every chapter mapped to what the NREMT exam actually covers.
- Resuscitation and airway content reviewed against the 2025 AHA Guidelines before publication.
- State-optional skills are labeled optional — we never pass one state's scope off as universal.
- Every clinical page carries a "last reviewed" date and cites the standards it's built on.
A service of Draco
DracoEMS is published by Draco Publishers and delivered through Draco Learning, the same team behind a growing library of professional training titles.
Its NREMT-prep companion, DracoEMTPrep, is included with every student subscription and is purpose-built to get students ready for exam day. It connects to DracoEMS, so a student's exam practice picks up right where the coursework leaves off.
Get in touchOur aim is to build the best EMT courseware we can, and then to price it so any student can afford to become the EMT their community needs.
