Built for everyone.
Every student deserves the same shot at becoming an EMT. Here's how we build DracoEMS to be usable with a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification, or whatever tools you rely on. Last updated: September 14, 2026.
Our commitment
We design and build DracoEMS to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. Accessibility is part of how we build, not a step at the end: we check pages against these guidelines as we ship them, test with a keyboard and with screen readers, and fix issues we find. This is a living statement — as the platform grows, we keep testing and improving.
What we've built in
- Full keyboard access. Every control — menus, the reader, forms, and the test engine — works without a mouse, and the element you're on always shows a clear focus outline.
- Screen-reader support. Pages use real headings, landmarks, and labels; interactive controls carry accessible names; and time-sensitive changes (like a test timer running low) are announced politely.
- Readable by design. Body text targets a comfortable measure and contrast; the reader has a text-size slider that scales everything, and the whole platform honors your light or dark preference.
- Reduced motion. Animations respect your system "reduce motion" setting.
- Accessible questions. Alternative item types are keyboard-first — "select all that apply" uses plain checkboxes, and "put in order" uses labeled up/down controls rather than mouse-only dragging.
- Listen to any chapter. The reader can read a chapter aloud with adjustable speed, and professionally narrated audio is on the way.
- Extended test time. Instructors can grant approved students extra time (or a time multiplier) on timed tests, applied automatically.
- Clear, plain language. Instructions, errors, and feedback are written to be understood, and errors say what to do next.
Ongoing work
Areas we're actively improving include captions and transcripts for lesson videos as that library is published, and continued screen-reader testing of newer interactions. If any part of the platform isn't working for you, we want to fix it quickly.
Standards & conformance
Our target is WCAG 2.2 AA. We're preparing a formal accessibility conformance report (VPAT/ACR) backed by an audit; until it's published, this statement describes our approach and the accommodations available today. It is not a claim of full, audited conformance.
Getting help & giving feedback
If you run into an accessibility barrier, or you need course material in a different format, please contact us and tell us the page and what happened. We treat accessibility problems as priority fixes and will work with you on an alternative in the meantime. Students enrolled through a program can also ask their instructor to set up approved accommodations such as extended test time.
